Dear Eirini,

Heard about your website and the worry of Greek people that other Europeans do not like them.

Let me assure you that the vast majority of Europeans have a great respect for Greece and Greeks, and in many cases a great liking also. We all know that Greece was the beginning of civilised European history, and that Greeks have been very successful in different walks of life, such as running shipping lines. I have had very pleasant contacts with Greece and Greeks.

The first was many years ago when I took my mother to a winter holiday in Greece, spending many days on Rhodes and also in Athens. More recently my wife, who was dying of cancer, made a special effort to come to Athens for the wedding of a nephew, who was marrying a Greek girl. It was a lovely wedding, and we also had a few days to walk around and explore Athens. It was my wife's last visit abroad, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was lovely and interesting, and the people were very friendly and welcoming.

So of course I am in favour of Greece and Greeks, and I know very many people are similarly in favour of Greece and Greeks.

I hope you are soon able to sort our your financial problems, without letting down too many people who have invested in Greece and in Greek bonds. Everyone has problems, and the character and strength of a people is how well and how quickly they can overcome their problems.

Keep up the good work!

Good luck!

John Szemerey

(writing from Hungary ... which also has some financial problems)
